Riya Rajendra Abhyankar

I am Riya Rajendra Abhyankar, currently pursuing my MBA at MKSSS’s Smt. Hiraben Nanavati Institute of Management and Research for Women.

On Friday, 13th September 2024, during our MBA Junior Induction Program, I had the privilege of visiting Maharshi Keshav Karve Stree Shikshan Samstha (MKSSS) with my respected teachers. This visit was one of the most memorable experiences of my life, leaving me with a deep sense of respect for the work done by Bharat Ratna Maharshi Dhondo Keshav Karve, fondly known as “Anna.”

Samstha Visit Our visit began at the Maharshi Karve Memorial, which pays tribute to the visionary efforts of Maharshi Karve. His dedication to women’s education and empowerment is well-known, but seeing it in person was truly inspiring. The Karve Kutir, where Anna spent much of his life, gave us a glimpse into his simple lifestyle and tireless work towards social reform. Visiting the Maharshi Karve Samadhi was a deeply moving experience, reminding us of the impact of his lifelong efforts to uplift women in society.

We also visited Vrundavan Baug, an area that showcases how the Samstha has expanded over the years. It includes various educational institutes for women, from schools to colleges, all dedicated to providing opportunities for learning and growth. The hostels offered safe and comfortable accommodation for students, demonstrating the organization’s commitment to the well-being of its learners.

As we continued our tour, we explored some of the Samstha’s practical facilities, such as a bakery and canteen. These facilities provide not only fresh food but also training opportunities for students to learn valuable skills. We saw how waste management and drinking water purification systems were implemented, showcasing the Samstha’s focus on sustainability and hygiene. The emphasis on cleanliness and safety throughout the campus was evident, and it was reassuring to know that the students studying here are in a safe and well-maintained environment.

Additionally, we visited an old age home and the medical department, which serve the needs of elderly women and promote health and wellness for everyone on campus. The sports facilities were impressive, providing students with opportunities to engage in physical activity and stay healthy.

Throughout the visit, I was struck by the Samstha’s deep commitment to women’s empowerment. Maharshi Karve’s vision of a world where women are given equal opportunities continues to be upheld, not only through education but also through modern amenities and technology. The legacy of Maharshi Karve is alive and thriving in the Samstha’s every initiative.

I feel extremely fortunate to have had the chance to witness such meaningful work in person. Being a part of the Karve family, even in a small way, fills me with pride and gratitude. The experience left me feeling deeply connected to this holy place, and I am excited to continue my education in such an empowering and inspiring environment.
