Hello I’m Srushti Fasate MBA Ⅰ 2024 Student. Visiting The MKSSS which is dedicated to women empowerment, with roots tracing back to 1898. The vibrant history and dedication to uplifting women were palpable as I explored the stories they held. Our visit began by paying respects to the shrines of Maharshi Karve and Baya Karve, bowing down to honor their incredible contributions to this legacy of empowerment.
The visit began at the Vrundavan Baug, a meticulously curated space showcasing the daily belongings of the founder, Maharshi Karve. Items like his pen, spectacles, coat and many historic items were beautifully displayed in one room. Adjacent to this was the Awards Gallery, a separate but equally significant area where various awards celebrating his lifelong commitment to social change were prominently exhibited. A particularly moving feature was a video documentary capturing Anna’s remarkable journey. The documentary highlighted the history of people’s behavior and thinking towards widows, making us reflect on the significant struggle involved in changing societal perspectives. It offered a poignant look at Anna’s life
We arrived at a playground and various college campuses and then We continued exploring the Sampada Bakery, run entirely by independent women, their faces reflecting satisfaction and pride. Their work demonstrated the Samstha’s commitment to fostering independence, echoed in the well-maintained and disciplined environment.
The architecture reflected Maharashtra’s rich cultural heritage, while innovations like Biogas Plant & Rainwater Harvesting underscored the institution’s focus on sustainability without gaining external support.
Visiting Maharshi Karve’s former residence offered a touching glimpse into his legacy, with
artifacts preserving the history of notable social reformers who had also been here.
Our journey led us to an old age home, where former staff members, affectionately called “Aaji,” live in dignity.many of these women had worked in the Samstha itself It was heartwarming to see how the Samstha continues to care for them with the same devotion they had once shown to others.
The girls’ hostel further exemplified the Samstha’s mission, providing underprivileged girls with a nurturing environment for their future. Throughout the visit, the dedication of faculty and staff was inspiring, reflecting the enduring spirit of Anna’s vision.
As I left, After spending a day immersed in this vibrant community, I realized that even after 125 years, Anna’s spirit lives on.I felt immense pride in being connected to this community. Maharshi Karve’s legacy is alive, continuing to uplift and inspire, and I feel motivated to carry these values forward in my own journey. Thank You!
