On 5th and 6th February 2016 MKSSS’s Smt. Hiraben Nanavati Institute of Management and Research for Women, Pune conducted a National Conference on the theme ‘DIGITAL INDIA: TRANSFORMING INDIA – Fostering Nation by Embracing and Enabling Technology, Innovation and People’.
The first day began with Inauguration of Poster and Model Exhibition followed by a formal inauguration of the Conference. Chief Guest for the conference was Mr. Anand Bhade (President, Asia Pacific, Tata Technologies Pvt. Ltd, India). Guests of Honour were Mr. Sushil Asar (Associate Partner, Business Analytics IBM, China), Mrs. Vidya Tai Kulkarni (LMC member, HNIMR, Pune). Dr. Jagdish Pol (Director, HNIMR) in his welcome address highlighted the importance of digitalisation as a part of pedagogy.
Mr. Sushil Asar delivered an enlightening presentation on the importance of Digital India’s vision. Mr. Anand Bhade highlighted the need to increase the internet penetration in India along with other digital components. The second session encompassed speech by Mr. Parag Harolikar (Co-founder and Director, Trenton Enterprise Pvt. Ltd., Pune). He spoke on Internet of Things especially focusing on Smart City, Smart Home and other sectors. In the next session a Panel Discussion on ‘Digitalization in Past and The Road Ahead’ was conducted. The panel members were Mr. Anil Gogate (Sr. Consultant, Product Development, PLM, Engineering Services), Dr. Sunita Barve (Senior Technical Officer, Digital Library and Education sector, NCL, Pune), Mrs. Tanuka Rakshit (Director and Head of HR, Sungard Availability Services, Pune), Mr. Vinayak Saidane (Sr. Process Consultant, The Most Group, Pune), Dr. Nandavdekar V.D (Director- MCA, Sinhgad Institute of Management, IT Education, Pune). They discussed how digitalization is important in different fields like Library, HR etc.
The day concluded by Paper Presentation which was chaired by Dr. Sunita Barve (Senior Technical Officer, Digital Library and Education sector, NCL, Pune), Dr. Shivaji Mundhe (Director, Sinhgad Institute of Management and Computer Application, Pune) and Dr. Nandavdekar V.D (Director- MCA, Sinhgad Institute of Management, IT Education, Pune).
The second day of conference began at 10 a.m. with a Panel Discussion on ‘Sustainable Innovation and Transformation in Digital Age: Advantage India’. The Panel members were Mr. Anuraag Chatterjee (Founder, Oportunitas, Pune), Mr. Sushil Shirke (Co-Founder and CEO of Conexstra Technologies Pvt. Ltd, Pune), Dr. Sachin Bhide (Consultant and Founder, Eha Management Consultancy, Pune), Mr. Dattaprasad Joshi (CEO, VC Products Pvt. Ltd, Pune). Mr. Sajith Chikkangal (Director- Information Technology (Asia and Pacific), PTC, Pune) was the moderator of this Panel Discussion. The main focus of this panel discussion was on sustainability and innovation.
The second session of the day was ‘Reimagining Life in Digital Space’ by Mr. Umesh Durve (CEO, Reliance Jio, Maharashtra, Mumbai) followed by session on ‘Preparing Ownself for Digital Age’ by Mr. Vinkal Jeet Saluja (VP Barclays, Pune). The next session was on ‘Digital India: A program to transform India into a Digitaly empowered Society and Knowledge Economy’ by Mr. Sushil Barmecha (Sr. SAP Consultant, Accenture, Pune) followed by ‘IT Revolution’ session by Mr. Abhijeet Desai (Sr. Program Manager, iGate, Pune) were the highlight of the day.
The conference concluded with the Valedictory session which was graced by Mr. Deepak Shikarpur (IT Expert and renowned author) as the Chief Guest, Mr. Raj Nikam (AVP, Star India, Mumbai), Mr. P. V. S. Shastry (Secretary, MKSSS) and Prof. N. D. Patil (Chairman, LMC, HNIMR) as the Guests of Honor. The winners of various competitions were felicitated at the hands of dignitaries. The 2nd prize winning team of Business plan at Carpe Diem, IIMC- Pooja Jaju, Zubiya Shaikh, Gayatri Lambe and Trupti Patkar. Winner of sports competition, Ayodhya Sase was felicitaed for winning Silver Medal at zonal level pistol shooting competition and securing 15th place at National level competition. Renuka Vyawahare was felicitated for winning Bronze Medal in SPPU inter-collegiate fencing tournament. The winners of the poster and model competition were also felicitated. Consolation prizes for Model Competition went to Ashwini Jogade, Manjiri Kalyankar and Minal Kadwe for their model on ‘Digital Machine’ and Mugdha Barve, Prachee Bahekar, Urvashi Bobde,Khushboo Chaudhari, Sayali Bhadalkar for their model on ‘IOT’. The third prize went to Devyani Patil, Siddhita Ramteke, Sneha Pawar, Swati Pawar and Snehal Sawdadkar for their model on ‘Healthy India- Wealthy India’. The second prize was bagged by Renuka Vaidya, Siddhita Shinde, Pooja Toshniwal, Ratnabharti Upacharya, Darshana Tibe, Aditi Thimbare and Akansha Thorat for their model on ‘Chalk and Walk vision’. The first prize for the competition went to Shweta doye, Pranita Dhanorkar and Kiran Gawai for their model on ‘Digital Dairy’. The conference ended with vote of thanks proposed by Prof. Suvarna Dhamdhere.
The co-ordinators of the National Conference were Prof. Suvarna Dhamdhere (Conference in-charge and IT Dept. Head, HNIMR) and Dr. Rachana Shikhare (Program in-charge and Research Head, HNIMR) and the IT department along with the support of students and staff.

The faculty development programme on English Communication Skills was organised on 26th and 27th Feb 2016 under the guidance of Dr Deepali Patil, Associate Professor, Appaseb Jedhe College,Pune. The FDP aimed at understanding different techniques to improve english communication skills . It also aimed at equipping the faculty members with the ability to understand and plan effective strategies to improve the interactive communication skills of the students.
The session was conducted in very lively and interactive manner with the use of exercises and demonstrations. The faculty members took active participation in the program.The FDP was coordinated by Dr. Ashok Pawar, Prof. Jyoti Gaikwad, Prof. Pranita Sonar.
The Chief Guest for the event was Mr. Robin Banerjee, Managing Director, Caprihans India Ltd., India. Sir is a senior professional executive with over 35 years of experience in several large multinational corporations in more than 20 countries. He is a Chartered Accountant, Cost and Management Accountant, Company Secretary, and has a Master’s degree in Commerce. He has won several awards and was nominated by Business Today as the Best CFO in India; as CFO-100 in 2010 and 2012 by the CFO-India magazine; the Corporate Leader in India by DNA; and many others. Sir has written three books on indirect taxation, one of which, Modvat, has gone into 10 editions. He is an acclaimed speaker on business management and finance-related topics.
The main objective of the event was to bring a reputed author on board so that the students can interact with the author and gain insights about the book read by them. Mr. Robin Banerjee highlighted that the book “Who Cheats and How” is a definitive account of Frauds and Scams popping up in the corporate world. A result of over six years of rigorous research, the work presents a deeper and comprehensive perspective on corporate scams and frauds. Sir also guided MBA students about the skills and confidence they need to possess to face the corporate world ahead.The event was coordinated by Librarian, Manjushree K Nawale under the guidance of Director, Dr. Jagdish N Pol.
The one day industrial visit was arranged at MAPRO Pvt Ltd, wai, district Satara on 25th Jan 2016. The objective of the visit was to know the functioning of food processing unit along with other management functions like marketing, budgeting, human resource, physical distribution system etc.
The students and faculty members were greeted warmly with a welcome drink at the plant. The operations of the plant were explained in detail. The processing, filling, packaging was shown which was carried out in clean and hygienic environment. Mr. Mustaq Sheikh, Business Head at MAPRO interacted with the students giving valuable information about the overall functioning of the business unit.
The visit was a great learning experience for the students as it served the motive of practical exposure .
